Thank you for your interest in Southern Exposure Photography! Let me introduce you to my life, my business, and my passion!
Let me start with where it all began... I received my first 110 camera for my ninth birthday and I was hooked! I was making my cats and cabbage patch dolls and who and whatever else I could pose for pictures. Of course with a 110 you can't control shutter speed or aperture so a lot of times my "scenes" I'd set up come out looking blurry. It didn't matter, I loved capturing it all - capturing LIFE!
I've always been a planner so I had already mapped out my entire future, which college I was going to go to, the name of my business, I was going to work for National Geographic traveling all over the world (because my other passion is nature/outdoors).... but sometimes God just laughs at our plans and creates what is even better for us because it's "His" plan, so it's better than anything we can come up with on our own!
I graduated high school and went straight into Calhoun Community College to pursue my Associate's Degree in Photography and Film Communications. I received my Associate's Degree in 1999. I was never interested in school from 1st grade on, so I thought I was done with "learning" at that point. I got a job working in the Photo Lab at Atlantic Technologies. We were an aerial mapping company - so that combined my love of flying too! While working there, they had a program where you could continue your education, so I enrolled in Athens State University to pursue my Bachelor's degree in Art (Photography). I received that in 2007.
In the meantime at work, LiDar had taken over, so the darkroom was no longer needed. It was time for me to open my own photography business (in February 2006). This was before digital cameras were easily accessible and I couldn't afford studio pictures of my daughter (when she was smaller), so I knew I wanted to be affordable. When I first opened my own business it was in a spare bedroom at my house. I found out shortly after graduation in 2007 that I had a surprise on the way! We ended up converting the studio spare bedroom, into the nursery! My mom owns her own business right down the road, The Deck Out Family Salon - so Southern Exposure Photography moved in!
I've been located at my current location on Highway 251 since 2007. It's located on nearly 5 beautiful acres behind my studio, plus, too many backgrounds to count as studio options. I also travel on location. When you contact me about your photography session, we will discuss in detail what you are looking for (the more detail, the better the session!) When you come in for your session we will take the pictures (normally a session lasts about 45 minutes) and then you will immediately be able to view and order your pictures. It takes about two weeks from there for your pictures to come in. When I receive my clients packages, it's like Christmas for me every time. There is just something about holding that print in your hand, knowing that it will be passed down for generations to come and one day someone's great-grandchildren will be looking at MY work that brings chills to me! I do sell the digital option too though.
Thank you for those of you who have made it this far in my life story (ha) and please contact me with any questions or to schedule a session! I can honestly say that my clients definitely become my friends! Please follow me on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with the latest news and specials and follow me on Pinterest for clothing ideas, etc.!
